APRS Tier 2 Sucks
The shitty APRS Tier 2 website states, “Tier 2 is the optimum choice for all APRS-IS users.”
I call bullshit…

Jason, KC5HWB
, maintains the popular(?) YouTube channel, “Ham Radio 2.0”. To
me, it’s yet another kool-aid-drinking cesspool of “content”.
Man, I wish DAPNET / HAMPager.de would get their shit together. Over the course of the past few months or so, the DAPNET server becomes completely unreachable for extended periods of time.
Now, I’m not the biggest Kool-Aid drinking fan of DAPNET to begin with, but I
have a DAPNET account and use the account for testing and validation purposes;
since POCSAG (and the DAPNET service) is a part of my
W0CHP-PiStar-Dash
software.
I’ll keep as concise as possible. One of my local ham clubs has been sucking the teat of the shitty WinLink service and promoting it profusely. I always felt WinLink sucked balls based on principle alone, the proprietary nature of it, and it really being basically a shitty ISP under the guise of a ham radio email service. It’s fucking up the amateur radio airwaves.
Here I go again, bitching about yet another shitty/sucky ham radio “service”. This time, it’s about SMSGTE, a relatively popular APRS-to-SMS gateway service. This is just a dumb thing for hams simply to play with.
Let me get this out of the way first; I’m a fan of the TGIF Network. I really do like the admins and the community behind it. It’s vibrant, different and flexible. It’s a fantastic network and group of hams.
I also like the notion of the TGIF Spot hotspot, but it still sucks and I’d never buy or use it.
Hamshack Hotline (“HH”), a “free” (not really) ham operator VoIP service is becoming all the rage right now in the world of ham radio (read: clueless hams drinking the kool aid). I haven’t used it, I won’t use it, and I can say that it sucks…
